Find an ALA Accredited Practitioner
Welcome to the National Lymphoedema Practitioners Register - the only recognised register of Lymphoedema practitioners in Australia and New Zealand.
All practitioners listed on this register are ALA Accredited Practitioners, having completed a recognised health qualification as well as a training course in lymphoedema management. To be admitted and remain on the register, practitioners must fulfil continuing education and professional indemnity insurance requirements. All ALA Accredited Practitioners are eligible to appear on the National Lymphoedema Practitioners Register (NLPR) which is the only recognised public register of lymphoedema practitioners in Australia and New Zealand.
ALA Accredited Practitioners work within the scope of practice of their health profession. When seeking an ALA Accredited Practitioner, please note there are two categories of accreditation:
Category 1 practitioners
- Provide initial diagnostic assessment, ongoing assessment and treatment of people with lymphoedema
- Qualified Medical Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or under the NZ Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act
- Meet the initial and ongoing requirements of an ALA Accredited Practitioner, as set down in the NLPR Guidelines.
Category 2 practitioners
- Provide ongoing assessment and treatment of people with lymphoedema
- Qualified Remedial Massage Therapists holding membership of a relevant professional association
- Meet the initial and ongoing requirements of an ALA Accredited Practitioner, as set down in the NLPR Guidelines.
Beyond the scope of practice specified by a practitioner's accreditation category, the type of treatment provided by ALA Accredited Practitioners will depend on the scope of practice of their specific undergraduate and/or postgraduate training and the level of lymphoedema management training undertaken by the practitioner.
For more information refer to the NLPR Guidelines and work with your healthcare providers to ensure you access the services appropriate for your needs.
