2021-2022 ALA Board of Directors - nominations close Friday 19 March 2021

Friday 19, Feb 2021

As the peak professional organisation promoting best practice in lymphoedema management, research and education in Australasia, the ALA strives to progress its work on behalf of our members and the lymphoedema community.  By contributing as a Board member, you will be able to influence outcomes and lead our community.  Nominations for a two-year term, commencing at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday 15 May 2021 and concluding at the Annual General Meeting in 2023, are now open.

The ALA Board is responsible to members for the overall performance of the organisation, providing leadership, strategic direction and overseeing the day-to-day operations.  A diverse range of backgrounds, skills and ideas is necessary to have a high functioning Board, as is a passion for contributing to the future success of the organisation and the community which we serve.

Keen to learn more?  Whether you are considering nominating now or in the future, we invite you to join us on Wednesday 10 March at 7.30pm AEDT when we will 'Demystify the role of the ALA Board'.  We'll discuss eligibility, what skills are needed, what you'll learn from being an ALA Board member, and potential pathways to becoming an ALA Board member if you feel you are not yet ready.   Click here to register

What is the commitment?  ALA Board members typically meet for one to two days every three months - February, May, August and November, as well as being expected to attend the annual conference/symposium and Annual General Meeting.  COVID restrictions impacted on the calendar during 2020 and it is anticipated that some changes to the meeting calendar for 2021 will be required.

In between meetings, Board members are expected to contribute on at least one committee which aligns with their skills and interests, and respond to matters which arise via email within 2 working days so that the work of the ALA can progress. While these positions are voluntary, all reasonable expenses are covered.  Additionally, ALA Board members develop new skills which will assist them in the workplace and personally, as well as new opening up opportunities in the community and business sectors. You will meet new peers, learn about the broader range of issues impacting our community across Australia, New Zealand and beyond, and have the opportunity to influence the future of the organisation.

Who is eligible?  Voting members of the ALA - that is, Life and financial Full members - are eligible to apply.  Current ALA Board members whose term is expiring may be eligible to renominate, subject to the terms within the Constitution.

What training is provided?   As well as annual training which is tailored to identified needs of the ALA Board, a detailed induction and ongoing support is provided to new ALA Board members.

Interested?  Download a nomination form today, complete and return with photograph and Statement of Board Intent (see nomination form below for full details).

Don't forget the strict deadline is 5.00pm AEDT on Friday 19 March 2021
