In the coming decade the ALA will continue to progress its strategic priorities towards excellence in lymphoedema management, education and research. By contributing as a Board member, you will be positioned to influence outcomes and lead the association through this exciting time. Nominations are for a two-year term commencing at the Annual General Meeting in Hobart in May 2020 and concluding at the Annual General Meeting in 2022.
The ALA Board is responsible to members for the overall performance of the organisation, providing leadership, strategic direction and overseeing the day-to-day operations. A diverse range of backgrounds, skills and ideas is necessary to have a high functioning Board, as is a passion for contributing to the future success of the organisation and the community which we serve.
What is the commitment? ALA Board members typically meet for one to two days every three months - February, May, August and November, as well as being expected to attend the conference/symposium annually and Annual General Meeting. In between meetings, they are expected to contribute on at least one committee which aligns with their skills and interests, and respond to matters which arise via email within 2 working days so that the work of the ALA can progress. While these positions are voluntary, all reasonable expenses are covered. Additionally, ALA Board members develop new skills which will assist in the workplace and personally, as well as opening up opportunities in the community and business sectors. You will meet new peers, learn about lymphology across Australia, New Zealand and beyond, and have the opportunity to influence the future of the association.
Who is eligible? Voting members of the ALA - that is, Honorary Life and financial Full members including accredited lymphoedema practitioners - are eligible to apply. If you have a broad understanding of lymphology across Australia, New Zealand and/or globally, as well as significant current experience in clinical, management and/or academic settings we encourage you to consider this opportunity. Current ALA Board members whose term is expiring may be eligible to renominate, subject to the terms within the Constitution.
What training is provided? As well as annual training which is tailored to identified needs of the ALA Board, a detailed induction and ongoing support is provided to new ALA Board members.
