Find an ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioner

Welcome to the National Lymphoedema Practitioners Register - the only recognised register of Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioners in Australia and New Zealand.

The detailed information provided on this page is provided to ensure you select the most appropriate ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioner for your needs.  If you are already aware of the options available, scroll to the bottom of the page to Find an ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioner.

Practitioners listed on this Register are ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioners who comply with the Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioner Program (ALPP), a robust regulatory scheme designed and administered by the Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA), the peak body for lymphoedema in Australia and New Zealand - click here to find out more about the ALPP.  Only practitioners who meet the entry requirements and demonstrate ongoing compliance with the Program's policies are ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioners. And - as only ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioners are eligible to appear on the National Lymphoedema Practitioners Register (NLPR, the Register) - consumers, carers and referrers can be assured that they will be accessing the best advice and care.

ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioners work within the scope of practice of their health profession. When seeking an ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioner, please note there are two categories of accreditation:

Category 1 practitioners

Provide initial diagnostic assessment, ongoing assessment and treatment of people with lymphoedema

  • Qualified Medical Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or under the NZ Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act
  • Meet the initial and ongoing requirements of an ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioner, as set down in the NLPR Guidelines and related policies.

Category 2 practitioners

Provide ongoing assessment and treatment of people with lymphoedema

  • Qualified Remedial Massage Therapists holding membership of a relevant professional association
  • Meet the initial and ongoing requirements of an ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioner, as set down in the NLPR Guidelines and related policies.

Beyond the scope of practice specified by a practitioner's accreditation category, the type of treatment provided by ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Practitioners will depend on the scope of practice of their specific undergraduate and/or postgraduate training and the level of lymphoedema management training undertaken by the practitioner.

For more information refer to the NLPR Guidelines and related policies - we encourage you to work with your healthcare providers to ensure you access the services appropriate for your needs.
